blast from the past

17/08

hi all. had quite an interesting time this week. caught up with some friends from the past which has been great fun.

i met up with dave from barclays, for a lunch time hot chocolate. he had been telling me how cold and wet it was in melbourne, and how lovely singapore was. it didnt seem like we hadnt spoken for nealy 4 months.

then, on Thursday, I met Tony, who was on the Thailand trip with us. he came via tokyo, and was glad to be in an english speaking country.... no-one or nothing is in english apparently...how rude!

then, on Friday night, me and tanya met up with dave and his wife Joss for a meal at his apartment, which ironically, was 2 mins around the corner from where we are living. we had a nice curry take away, and plenty of beer/wine. you can order food from this menu, that collects from loads of different resturants, which is a great idea... also, we had a beady eye on the cricket, which I must admit, I have never taken an interest in before. but as we were doing well, it was not that bad......

felt a bit rough on Saturday, but we managed to drag ourselves out of bed, and down to the IMAX cinema. we watched aliens of the deep which was pretty decent. Tanya admitted she got a bit scared, and closed her eyes through some of it.....$17 well spent.......

sat night, Tony came round to ours to watch our dvd of asia, and then we went out for dinner. it was great catching up, and we have penciled in a reunion next year at his residence in Cork.....

Dinner was great, as I tried Kangaroo for the 1st time.... it has adistinct taste, but it was quite nice. I also had a side portion of biltong, which I miss so much.... i need to find out where they get it.....

We went for a few drinks at an irish bar...forget which one, as there are sooooo many. then at midnight, I sneaked off into an internet cafe, and listened to the saints v sheff weds match....i'm so sad but it had to be done. we won 1-0 by the way!!!

then after that, around 2am, I had a celebratery drink, as most of sydney was still pumping!!

On Sunday, we met up with Tony, his sister and his niece. we went to the zoo, known as taronga zoo. was a lovely day, it it pretty much took the whole day to look around.. as you probably saw from the pics, most of the animals were asleep or lazing around. it was a great day out, and seeing tony again was definately the highlight of the weekend.

gonna have a quiet one next weekend I think, as we need to save some money for when my mum and dad get here. They are here in just over a week.....scarey.hope you liked the pics I sent,

bondi-coogee

08/06

hey everyone. just another weekly update for you.

its been another busy week at work for both of us. saving thosepennies to continue our travels.

we went to one of tanya's new friends for a meal on Friday night. An irish gal - michelle and aussie guy john. there were plenty of potatoes to eat, I kid you not. a favourite of michelle's (no surprise).....we then went on a bit of a pub crawl, til the wee hours of the morning. didnt get home til about 4am. the great thing about syndey, is that you could still be wandering round at 2am looking for another place to drink, and most places are still open, and still let you in.Perfect for alchies.....

as a result of Friday night, Saturday was a bit of a write-off. we did manage to find a shop that imports food from england that you cant buy in asutrailia. Like proper cadbury's chocolate, twiglets, fairly washing up liquid, Fuse bars (didnt even know they still sold them in the uk...... Lilt, shreddies and much more. we bought a big bar ofchocolate, some fruitella, and some mayonaise....their's just isnt the same.

Sunday was a bit more productive, as we went on a 4.5 mile walk between bondi and coogee beach. its a bit of a legendry walk apparently, and you get to see some of the nicest views and beaches on the way. took about 1.5 hrs. I'm sure Nick and Annette will love to do this when they come out.........

only a couple more weeks til my mum and dad come out, which is quite exciting. we're gonna head up to the gold coat with them for a few days as well.

Saw that saints scraped a draw at the weekend. as it was an evening kick off, i would have had to wait til 2am to watch them. But as they are now in an amature league, they dont show these games on TV in Oz,so i wont be able to see them til i get back home.....by then, we'llbe back where we belong with the big boys!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying the british summer back home. another harsh winter's week here where tempatures hit 23 degrees......oh the agony.catch ya later
